Grain Silo - Storage Silos
PRADO SILOS is a grain storage company providing the design, supply and delivery of galvanized steel grain silos. Our portfolio includes flat bottom silos, hopper bottom silos and allrequired accessories in order to provide worldwide customized SILOS for the agricultural industry.
Grain Silos
PRADO SILOS offers the latest technology within the grain storage industry. Our engineering and technical expertise, combined with our commitment to customer satisfaction, places us as a front runner in this growing market.
Technology
PRADO Silos grain silos are designed for the requirements of commercial applications and are made under the latest manufacturing technologies. Our silos are well designed to withstand the loads due to continuous use, high wind speed and heavy snow loads. The silos use an upright stiffening system, which allows for a more efficient use of steel as well maximizing the silo strength. This stiffening system can also be adapted to meet different load requirements of specific facilities, as additional stiffening can be added at points of heavier load, such as under catwalks. Finally, grain silos offer high resistance to corrosion thanks to the use of Z-600 galvanization on the body sheets, roofs and stiffeners.
The main components of our silos and their features are as follows:
- Body sheets. Body sheets are formed from pre-galvanized steel coils, with Z-600 galvanizing. Body sheets are punched after corrugation, assuring accurate hole alignment and uniform fitting during assembly.
- Stiffeners. Stiffeners are made of cold formed galvanized steel.
- Roofs. Roofs are formed from pre-galvanized steel coils 0.8 mm thick. Roofs are manufactured with a 30 or 35 degrees slope to fit the angle of the product. Internal steel structure, made of cold formed beams, is delivered according to silo diameters and roof loads calculation (snow, wind, etc).
- Wind rings. Wind rings are supplied as per wind load calculations. Wind ring segments are made of hot-dip galvanized tubes. They are connected to the stiffeners by special brackets.
- Bolting. To ensure maximum strength at all joints, galvanized bolts M10 grade 8,8 are used. Neoprene washers are used to provide watertight joints. To provide waterproof silos, special sealing elements are used between body sheet joints.
At PRADO Silos we perform all structural calculations in accordance with the following standards and regulations:
- DIN 18800, Part 1 - Structural steelwork: Design and Construction.
- DIN 18914 - Thin-walled Cylindrical Tower Silos.
- DIN 1055, Part 4 - Actions on Structures: Wind Loads.
- DIN 1055, Part 5 - Actions on Structures: Snow Loads and Ice Loads.
- DIN 1055, Part 6 - Actions on Structures: Loads on Silo Bins.
- ANSI/ASAE EP433 - Load Exerted by Free-Flowing Grain on Bins.
- ANSI/ASAE EP545 - Loads Exerted by Free-Flowing Grain on Shallow Storage Structures.
- ANSI/ASAE D241.4 - Density, Specific Gravity and Mass-Moisture Relationships of Grain for Storage.
- ENV 1991-4 - Annex C. Actions in Silos and Tanks. Seismic Action.
Flat bottom silos
These silos are erected on flat or conical concrete foundations. The volume of this type of silo ranges from 39 m3 to 25,232 m3.
This type of silos is used for both short-term and and long-term storage of grain, oil seeds and other granulated free flowing materials.
Flat bottom silos are supplied with all required accessories for complete plant operation: grain sweep augers, level and temperature controls, aeration systems with built-in fans, and all required supporting structures.
Hopper bottom silos
These silos are designed for unloading processes through the action of gravity and they are erected on a supporting structure.
Hopper silos are used for seed storage (sunflower seeds, soya, maize, sorghum, rice, etc). They can also provide temporary storage of wet grain as part of a grain drying plant and other buffer bin applications in silo plants.
The storage of other free flowing products like pellets for other industrial plants is also possible.
Hopper. All hoppers are designed for highly cyclical loading and unloading processes. Standard angles are supplied at 47 and 60 degrees. Hopper silos have a smooth wall hopper transition with no steps or flanges to offer the cleanest product discharge from the silo.
Structure. Silos are supported on a rolled ring beam with welding. The entire support structure and the ring beam are hot-dip galvanized. The supporting structure is made of hot rolled profiles.
Access door silos
At PRADO Silos a complete set of weatherproof access doors may be supplied with all our silos.
Roof access door. This access door is located at the silo eave and provides an entrance from the roof, usually when the silo is loaded with grain. This entrance can be reached by a ladder fixed to the silo wall or a drop down ladder from the catwalk may be installed.
Lateral access door. A standard lateral access door is on the second ring of all flat bottom silos. Alternatively this lateral access door can be moved to any silo ring to suit the plant. For hopper bottom silos this access door is located on the second ring.
Drive through door. PRADO Silos also offers an optional drive through door to allow the entrance of front loader or other vehicles to clean out the silo.
Aeration systems silos
Proper aeration is an important part of every grain storage system and it is essential to maintaining grain quality. Properly operated aeration systems can control insect infestation and can reduce grain spoilage.
Roof Vents. Roof vents provide a natural air flow. Grilled roof vents prevent birds from entering the silo. The number of roof vents vary according to the silo diameter and the type of grain to be stored. Seams between roof sheets and vents are sealed with high strength special materials.
Roof Fans. These high volume fans produce the effective air suction needed to reduce condensation at the top of the silo. Roof fans help, along with aeration fans, to effectively to control grain spoilage in the storage silo.
Aeration Channels. Aeration channels are made of perforated plates. The total length of the aeration channels depends on the total silo area and volume to be aerated. Standard "V" or "H" type aeration channels lay outs are placed depending on the total area and volume of the silos.
Lateral discharge system silo
Lateral unloading systems facilitate the extraction of grain, through the action of gravity, to load trucks and conveyor systems. The grain flows from the top of the silo towards the unloading point through an internal flume system.
Level and temperature control systems silos
Temperature control system
The temperature control system supplies continuous temperature measurement, about the different grain temperatures inside the silo.
The quality of the stored grain is controlled through many temperature sensors. The number of sensors depends on the silo diameter.
Any temperature variation produced within the grain is automatically detected and allows for quick action to avoid any grain spoilage that may happen.
Level control system
The level control system lets us know the levels of the silos. Maximum and minimum level detectors are placed as a standard.
Typical level detectors for maximum and minimum level of the silos are membrane type or paddle rotary type ( for ATEX).
Detectors for continuous level measurement can be installed per request in order to monitor the level of the silo at any time.
Ladders and catwalks silos
PRADO Silos a complete ladders, catwalks and supporting structures following all standard regulations.
Ladder silo. Aluminum vertical ladders with non-slip steps, safety cages and intermediate resting platforms for all access to the silo ( roof doors, lateral doors, catwalks, etc.) are supplied in all our silos. Ladder design is based on a modular system for easy assembly according to EN 14122 standards.
Catwalk silo. Modular galvanized catwalks are available in order to fit any conveyor system width. A standard walkway including grating with close mesh and proper hand railing is supplied with the catwalk system. Catwalks can be supplied with a maintenance platform at every silo top and walk around platforms at the ends of conveyor systems.
Supporting structure
All supporting structures and their accessories are custom designed to meet every project requirement, taking into consideration snow, wind and seismic loads that may affect the structural system.
Structures allow the flexibility to add platforms and walk-around access as required by the customer.
Supporting structures are made of galvanized steel to ensure many years with no maintenance requirements.
Special solutions
Roof options. Roof inclination at 35 degrees to fit the angle of special grains. Double roof for thermal insulation. Roof edge catwalk and handrail.
